Authorities arrested 25 people for alleged links to the Zetas drug trafficking organization in Hidalgo, central Mexico, including 10 municipal police officers.

The officers confessed to having given protection to the Zetas in the northeast region of Huasteca, reported Proceso.

Those arrested included the director and deputy director of Public Safety of the municipality of San Felipe Orizatlan, as well as a traffic officer.

State police made the arrests after an attack against their forces on Sunday. While investigating the attack, they captured 15 suspected Zetas members. These detainees led them to the police officers, reports the Associated Press.

In September 2009 some 124 police officers in Hidalgo, at the municipal, state, and federal levels, were detained on suspicion of collaborating with the Zetas.
