Colombia's largest rebel group the FARC announced its new top commander is Rodrigo Londoño Echeverry, alias "Timochenko." The announcement follows the death of its previous leader "Alfonso Cano" on November 4.

In another blow to the FARC rebels, Guillermo Leon Saenz, alias "Alfonso Cano," the commander in chief of the group, has been killed by government forces.

The FARC are apparently still a force to be reckoned with, according to a new report by two journalists who spent a week in the Eastern Plains with the Colombian rebel group.

A video shows Colombian guerrillas testing a homemade bazooka, using 80mm mortar rounds, providing visual evidence of the rebels' capacity to produce cheap and deadly weapons, which could be used to take on vehicles or police and army bunkers.

Colombian rebels appear to be increasing their recruitment of foreign nationals after an Ecuadorean was captured and a Panamanian surrendered to authorities.

Guillermo León Sáenz Vargas, alias 'Alfonso Cano,' was the supreme commander of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia – FARC), the hemisphere’s oldest and deadliest insurgency. He was killed on November 4.
